ProTech T503-SB TR-5 – Sapphire Blue

The ProTech T503-SB TR-5 – Sapphire Blue is based off of the Tactical Response 4 model. It is smaller and more pocket-friendly, and may be the perfect size automatic knife for pocket carry. This TR-5 features a black anodized 6061-T6 aluminum handle with an abalone push button, and black finish hardware. Features ProTech’s newest blade finish, Sapphire Blue. The sapphire blue 154-CM steel spear point style blade comes with a plain edge. It incorporates a sliding safety on the front of the handle that keeps the blade locked up when not being used. This Tactical Response 5 model incorporates a steel glass breaker at the end of the handle. The Protech TR-5 is a whole new take on ProTech’s popular Tactical Response line, and is a knife that will not let you down. It fires hard, locks up like a rock, and feels great. The TR-5 has a tip-up pocket clip. 

154CM Steel: 154CM steel is one of “better” steel varieties made for cutlery and other knife blades. It’s not a powder steel (CPM-154 would be the powder version), but it’s a commonly used steel for a higher grade knife. It has an exceptionally good balance between three enviable attributes which are toughness, hardness and corrosion-resistance.

ProTech’s Sapphire Blue Blade Finish: The Sapphire Blue coating is a special proprietary PVD coating that is very similar to ProTech’s Rose Gold nitride coating, which is typically used for high-speed milldrill bits in abrasive applications. It’s a very wear resistant coating, well suited for use as a blade coating. Trace minerals in the nitride process cause the striking blue color, with varying cool hues depending on the lighting.
