The Microtech 232-2Z Zombie UTX-85 has been updated and refined over the previous UTX-85 models from years ago. It features improved ergonomics, with rounded handle faces, and patches of grooves along the sides to ensure excellent grip. The firing button has been redesigned to increase surface contact for effective engagement, and the glass breaker has a ball-tip set in the trip-angle pattern base to increase its everyday carry manners. This UTX-85 Zombie model has a double edge (Dagger-Partially Serrated Edge) Bohler M390, Carpenter CTS-204P, or Elmax steel blade with a black finish and satin finish flats. The green anodized 6061-T6 aircraft grade aluminum handle features a black finish, pocket clip, glass breaker, and stainless steel hardware with a zombie red blood spatter on the handle. The UTX-85 gets its name because it is 85 percent the size of the Microtech’s Ultratech model, and is an excellent option for those who prefer a smaller OTF auto knife.
Elmax Steel: Produced by Bohler-Uddenholm, ELMAX steel has high wear resistance, high compressive strength, superior corrosion resistance, and a very good dimensional stability, or the ability to retain its size and form even after taking abuse. Although high wear and corrosion resistance are typically hard to find together in a knife blade, this steel’s powder-metallurgy based production allows for its imperviousness to wear, and corrosion.
Bohler M390 Steel: Bohler M390 stainless steel is one of the recent wave of “super steels” heralded by knife makers all over the world. It has characteristics of high hardness and excellent corrosion resistance. This means you’re going to get a very fine edge that retains it sharpness even through hard use, with little to no patina. Introduced and manufactured by Bohler-Uddeholm, M390 is a powdered steel. Bohler’s specifications claim a Rockwell hardness of 60 – 62HRC, putting it in the higher echelon of stainless knife steels. M390 is called a “micro clean” steel and takes a mirror finish very well.
Carpenter CTS-204P Steel: CTS-204P is made by the USA-based Carpenter Technology Corporation. The unique combination of wear resistance, toughness, polish ability and corrosion resistance makes CTS 204P an excellent choice for knife blades. CTS-204P fine grained alloy is a popular choice for high end folders and small fixed blades with a working hardness up to 62HRC. It exhibits excellent performance with both, coarse and high polished edges.
