Benchmade 585-03 Mini Barrage

The Benchmade 585-03 Mini Barrage was designed by the esteemed Mel Pardue. The Mini Barrage has been a standard bearer for reliability and utility for many years, and Benchmade has given this Mini Barrage the update it deserves. This Mini Barrage model is an Axis assisted lock with integrated safety, and features Blue Canyon Richlite handles for grip. Flat Dark Earth anodized thumb studs for one handed opening. The drop point blade is CPM-S90V steel with a satin finish. A Split Arrow (Tip-Up, Right/Left Carry) pocket clip completes this design.

CPM-S90V Steel: CPM-S90V steel is well known for its wear-resistance. According to Crucible, S90V is used in plastic feed screws, valve components, nozzles, slitters, cutters, gear pumps, pelletizing equipment, bearings, and other hard use parts. In the knifemaking world, S90V is legendary for its near perfect edge-retention. It is close to impossible to dull a blade made of CPM S90V. That being said, you need the patience of a saint to sharpen it, however infrequent that may be. S90V is in the upper echelon of knifemaking “super steels”, as is evident by the hefty price tag that accompanies the knives to which it adorns.

Richlite: Richlite was initially developed as a pattern making tool in the United States in 1943. It is made of a heated, pressed stack of 100% recycled paper in ethanol or methanol resin. The resin system mixture specifically was chosen to avoid high energy emissions during the maturation process. This process is part of the brand’s effort to minimize gas usage and reduce carbon footprint through emission tracking. Physically, it is smooth and has a natural aesthetic. Due to its variety of colors and wide selection of sizes and thicknesses, top designers, developers, and manufacturers recommend the Richlite for knife handles.
